Arctic Region Supercomputing Center




Established in 1993 as part of the Department of Defense High Performance Computing Modernization Program, the center received $235.5 million this year in funding, of which $13 million went to the center itself for equipment and personnel; the rest is allocated in grants and scholarships.

The ARSC is the United States government's leading facility for study into Global Warming .


HARDWARE

The center comprises these computers named:

  • Klondike — 128-processor Cray X1, 1.6 TFLOPS peak system Performance , 512 GB of Main Memory

  • Iceflyer — 32-processor IBM Regatta, 218 GFLOP, 256 GB

  • Iceberg — 800-processor IBM System, 5 TFLOPS

  • Nelchina — 36-processor Cray XD1

  • Dog Team Cluster — IBM Intellistation Cluster

  • CerebroSunPC cluster
