Information About

Aol Explorer

AOL Explorer is a Freeware Internet Explorer Shell by AOL . In 2005 , AOL launched the AOL Explorer 1.1 for free download and as an optional download with AIM version 5.9. AOL Explorer supports Tabbed Browsing , but also was the first browser to use thumbnail images of webpages on their tooltips in the browser's history, bookmarks, and open tabs. It also had a feature called Power Browsing, which allowed users to customize the look of the current page, such as "High Contrast" and "I Need Glasses".

AOL launched version 1.2 in November 2005. It was very similar to version 1.1 (released July 2005), but included two new features: Tab Explorer and RSS Widgets from Favorites. Tab Explorer is a full-screen view of all open tabs using thumbnails: something Microsoft ended up putting into IE7 (and calling Quick Tabs).

Currently, AOL Explorer is available for download but also ships with AIM Triton and aggressively encourages users to use it by displaying AIM Today content (which is set by default to open when Microsoft Windows starts) starts and prompting the user to set it as the computer's default browser.

AOL signed a seven-year contract with Microsoft to use Internet Explorer code in 2003 , and as such, AOL Explorer is based on MSIE technology. However, unlike Internet Explorer, AOL Explorer uses a partnership with Google for searching the Internet rather than MSN Search .
