Animex began as a two-day series of lectures by animators at the University Of Teesside in February 2000, and has rapidly grown to a week-long festival incorporating the two day event Animex Game held at the end of January with simultaneous events in a variety of locations. Locations include ARC at Stockton-on-Tees , the BALTIC Centre For Contemporary Art at Gateshead , UGC Cinema in Middlesbrough, the Riverside Stadium , and local schools. The festival is composed of a number of different events, such as the Animex Student Animation Awards, which takes entries from around the world, '''Animex Game''', '''Animex Lounge''' and '''Animex Talk!''', which offer people the chance to meet industry luminaries, and '''Animex Street''' and '''Animex Town''', which involve people from the local region. Guest speakers in the past have included such industry professionals as Pixar animator Mark Walsh, Bob The Builder designer Curtis Jobling Owner of Ritual Entertainment Richard Levelord Gray, Blitz Games , Ernest Adams , Chris Crawford and Professor Stuart Sumida.
