Andres Useche




Andres Useche grew up in Manizales , Colombia , where he was born in 1977 . He has been interested in Art , especially Comics , from a young age. His first published work, a cartoon titled “Soy Libre,” appeared in a local Colombian newspaper when he was only eleven years old. As a Teenager , Andres spent a year in the United States , where he lived in San Francisco . Thanks in part to this experience, Andres became fluent in English .

In the 1990s, Andres took on a number of projects in the Visual Arts . He was an Illustrator for a children’s book, a cover designer for a graphic arts magazine and a book series. He has also participated in several photography exhibitions.

One of the assignments Andres has worked on while still an undergraduate student, a short film entitled “Vana Espuma” (Idle Mist), won the Cesar award for Best Fiction Film at the 1998 Cesares (a South American equivalent of the Academy Awards). With a combination of mystery and philosophical explorations, Vana Espuma challenges the viewers’ perception of reality. The efforts that Andres devoted to this film also earned him a Cesar award for Best Screenplay, as well as nominations for Best Actor and Best Music. Andres and his college friends produced Vana Espuma on a budget of about a hundred dollars. In 2001 , Andres graduated with a B.A. degree in Visual Design from Universidad De Caldas in Manizales .

Andres has lived in the United States since 2002 . Andres has also pursued several other projects, including a 5-minute film ''Exit'' (also known as Deadline) that premiered at the Angelika Theater in 2003 . Recently, he was hired to direct a feature film with a multimillion-dollar budget.
