''Anansi Boys'' is a Novel by Neil Gaiman , based around the character of Anansi ('Mr. Nancy') from '' American Gods '', who dies at the beginning of the novel, and his family, particularly his two sons Fat Charlie and Spider, who explore their common heritage. It was published on September 20 2005 . It hit the '' New York Times '' bestseller list at number one {Link without Title} . The story contains themes surrounding names and songs.


PLOT


Charlie (nicknamed "Fat Charlie" in the novel) leads an uneventful life as a clerical worker in London until his father, Mr. Nancy dies and he discovers he has a brother, Spider, whom he never knew about. When Spider comes to London, ostensibly for a visit, Charlie becomes desperate to get rid of Spider, who seems to do the impossible at will and has stolen Charlie's life, as well as his fiancée.

But trying to get rid of his brother only makes things worse. Charlie has to confront the fact that his father was the ancient African trickster and part-spider god Anansi and that neither Charlie nor his life is normal any more. He'll just have to live with it, and up to it...or else he's not going to live.
