is an
Alternative Rock band from
Manchester ,
Great Britain .
The band has a unique and expressive sound despite the fact that it consists of only three members. This can be largely attributed to singer and guitarist
Sel Balamir who is seen to be the band’s backbone.
The band’s self-titled debut album was released on the 6th of June,
2004 by the British label
Music For Nations – which is a subsidiary of the larger label distributor
Zomba Records – and was very well received by English media and critics. But unfortunatly, The label ran out of funds, so Amplifier went to search a new album, which they found in 2005 with
SPV (germany). The Debut was being Re-released with a a second disc, containing unreleased Bonus Tracks and Videos.
Since then the band has mainly been busy with touring. Fans of alternative music are awed by their sound which varies masterfully between melancholy and sheer drive. Their guitar sound is modified with several effects (more than 20 Different Pedals used on guitars as well as bass), even the vocals are distorted in a few songs. Hall and Delay effects contribute to an eerie atmosphere. Amplifier many influences reach from classical metallic
Hard Rock to
Progressive Rock . Also, bands such as
Pink Floyd and
Led Zeppelin should be mentioned in this context.
The EP "The Astronaut Dismantles Hal" which contains 6 songs was released on October 17, 2005. Work on their second album is expected to commence in 2006.
