The first New Zealand Amnesty group was founded in 1965 , and the organisation was incorporated in 1966 . Since being founded, the organisation has worked to free Prisoners Of Conscience , fight human rights violations around the world, and promote human rights in New Zealand by lobbying and education. The AINZ acts primarily with a focus on rights within the Asia-Pacific region, and is secretariat for the Association Of Commonwealth Amnesty International Sections . Among the high profile campaigns the organisation has taken part in was the case of Algerian an elected Member Of Parliament and Asylum Seeker Ahmed Zaoui .
