History Alternate Marvel began in June 2000 when callouts were sent on various Internet discussion groups, asking if there were interested people who would like to write fan-fiction based on Marvel characters. More than thirty interested writers replied, but the group was culled to seven. Originally conceived as a general fan-fiction group, it was narrowed to a specific set of parameter to create a cohesive vision. At one point, the group gained enough popularily to garner a mention in the comic magazine Wizard Magazine . Offerings Alternate Marvel offers such Marvel staples as The Amazing Spider-Man , The Uncanny X-Men , The Incredible Hulk , and The Avengers . Other series include A-Next , Brother Voodoo , Academy X , and The New Warriors . There are also many original offerings, such as Avalanche , Aqua Teen Hunger Force , Highlander , Window Into The Unknown , Topaz , Squirrel Girl , Blue Cyclone , Legends , The Guard , The Lives And Times Of Mister X , Slyde , as well as many others. The Altmarvel Curse A long-standing 'curse' has been apparent throughout the group's history: Any writer who joined with the intention of writing either The Fantastic Four or Captain America would last no longer than a few weeks before severing communication. Any attempt to get word from these writers resulted in nothing. A joke began in the Altmarvel community that this was as a result of a curse on these two series. Since then, the curse seems to have 'lifted' from the Fantastic Four, though Captain America still remains with no writer. External links |
