Ali Arman is a young Urdu poet born in Rawalpindi, Pakistan on 25 August 1973 . He started creating poetry at very tender age of 14 years. He joined major literary forums of Rawalpindi and Islamabad in 1990. Soon after his arrival on literary scene, he attracted the attention of major poets, writers and critics with his unique and very modern poetry. He writes in Urdu, Punjabi and his mother tongue Pothohari (A Punjabi Dialect). He has created great poetry in the forms of ghazal (lyric), nazam (poem), nasri nazam (prose poetry) and Taweel nazam (Long poem). He is the best poet of Urdu which the last decade of 20th century has produced. His first book of poetry (Urdu Lyrics) was published in March, 1998 when he was just 24 years old. That book remains one of the important books of poetry of this era. He is currently living in UK and is an editor of a magazine called “The Mosaic Journal” which is a bilingual magazine of Urdu and English literature. Ali Arman’s poetry has been translated into English, French, Spanish and German. His poems have attracted attention of world poets and critics by the uniqueness of their language and use of post modern technique very successfully. Urdu has found a new smell and taste in Ali Arman's poetry. His new book of poetry “Mein Ghazal mein rehta hoo” (I Reside in Lyric) will be publishing very soon. He is the one poet depicted by many renowned critics of Urdu poetry as the Great poet in making. Ali Arman is a champion poet of freedom, democracy and human rights and has written many poems and columns against the Army and Establishment rule in Pakistan.
