BIOGRAPHY Early life Stewart was born in New York City and raised in New York and at her parents' homes in Westport, Connecticut and Easthampton, New York . Her father, Andrew Stewart, and her mother divorced in 1990. Stewart attended prep school at The Putney School in Vermont and graduated from Barnard College , her mother's alma mater. Career Stewart has referred to herself as her mother's "original apprentice" and reports that her first job was assisting in Martha Stewart's Westport-based catering business. However, after college, she ventured into other endeavors. She designed, built and operated the Bridgehampton Motel property in Bridgehampton, New York on Long Island. She also bought, built and ran the East Hampton Gym and Sag Harbor Gym on Long Island, which she now co-owns with her partner Bruce Cotter. In the fall of '', a Spinoff of Donald Trump 's '' The Apprentice ''. Current projects Stewart currently co-hosts "Whatever", a show on Martha Stewart Living Radio carried on Sirius Satellite Radio . Stewart and radio partner Jennifer Koppelman Hutt talk about topics ranging from pop culture to personal relationships. The show is billed as being about "whatever" the two women are thinking, reading, or hearing. Relationships Stewart married John Cuti, an Attorney in 1997 . Cuti served as a consultant during Martha Stewart's legal proceedings, but was not her primary attorney. During or shortly after the trial, Stewart and Cuti separated. They're not legally divorced yet, but Alexis said on '' Larry King Live '' and The Howard Stern Radio Show that she's dating someone new. Martha and Alexis Stewart have reportedly had a contentious relationship at times, but became closer as Alexis grew older. Their relationship became stronger during Martha's legal battles and during the time she spent in federal prison at Alderson, West Virginia . Alexis was a frequent visitor and made a high profile exit with her mother on a private Jet escorting her to freedom (actually to home confinement) on March 4 , 2005 . There has been speculation that Alexis is being groomed as her mother's successor to lead Martha Stewart Omnimedia , a report neither Alexis nor Martha will confirm. EXTERNAL LINKS
