Alexander Auld (born January 7 , 1981 in Thunder Bay, Ontario , Canada ) is a Goaltender for the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League .

PLAYING CAREER

Auld was selected in the second round, 40th overall, of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft by the Florida Panthers . While still playing junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League , Auld was traded to Vancouver for a third round pick in 2002 and a compensatory pick in 2001.

He has played several seasons for the Canucks' American Hockey League affiliate, the Manitoba Moose . Before the 2004-05 NHL Lockout Auld replaced an injured Dan Cloutier in the 2004 Stanley Cup playoffs and is currently the starting goaltender for the Canucks, as Cloutier is out due to an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury that requires surgery. Larger than the average goalie, his size allows him to avoid relying too much on reflexes, giving him an unusually calm style.
