Matthew Flinders explored the area in 1802 , during his circumnavigation of Australia. Aldinga was a flourishing settlement during the 1860s, when it served as a port for the Fleurieu Peninsula. TOURISM Aldinga is a small bayside fishing resort. Tourism includes a surfing beach and an off-shore reef supporting sea grasses and sponges - a favourite haunt of divers. Nearby Maslin Beach has the distinction of being the first in Australia to officially welcome nude bathing.
