The museum includes Polasek's former retirement home, studio, galleries, and chapel, as well as surrounding gardens containing figurative sculpture and mythological pieces. The permanent collection of approximately 400 pieces includes sculpture by Polasek, Augustus Saint-Gaudens , Charles Grafly , and Ruth Sherwood , as well as antiquities from Polasek's collection. April 16, 2006 The Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens presented Easter Pysanky : Decorated Eggs of Europe in the Lakeview Gallery of the Polasek Residence. On display there were approximately 120 examples of this art form, including both traditional painted eggs and hand-painted modern European interpretations. Painted eggs were often given as gifts at births, engagements, weddings, in time of sickness and when wishing someone well. Following the introduction of Christianity to the Slavonic people, the eggs became associated with Easter. |
