The Progressive Conservative Party of Peter Lougheed won its second term in government with over 62% of the popular vote, winning 69 of the 75 seats in the legislature. The Social Credit Party , saw its vote collapse. The party had sank into near-paralysis in opposition. Its grassroots organization had atrophied over the years, and the party was ill-prepared for a role outside government after being the governing party for virtually all of its history prior to 1971. It lost over half the share of the popular vote that it had won in the Previous Election and its legislative caucus was reduced from 25 members to only four. RESULTS Note:
