She first joined the Wisconsin State Legislature by winning a special election in 1990 . She served the remainder of the term and a full two-year term in the State Assembly before being elected in 1992 to the State Senate representing the 8th Senate District. Darling has been reelected to the State Senate three times since 1996 , most recently in 2004 . Since 2000 , she has served on the powerful Joint Finance Committee. BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION Senator Darling was born in Hammond, Indiana . She is married to Dr. William Darling and they have two children; Liza and William. Alberta Darling graduated from Richwood High School in Peoria, Illinois ; and then received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University Of Wisconsin-Madison in 1966 . Darling did graduate work at the University Of Wisconsin-Milwaukee from 1972 - 1974 . Senator Darling is a full-time legislator. She is a former teacher and marketing director.
