Information About

Alan-a-dale

He is a relatively late addition to the legend, possibly because in real life a minstrel would have been somewhat out of place in a band of Outlaw s. Subsequently, he was added to plays made about the adventures of the famous outlaws, as well as some children's novels, movies and television shows.

He appears in a Child Ballad , ''Robin Hood and Allen a Dale''. Robin Hood rescues Alan's girlfriend (named Ellen, in Howard Pyle's novel) from an unwanted marriage to an old knight.

Alan has musically narrated both Disney film versions of the legend (as a cartoon rooster in the 1973 cartoon version).

He shares some elements with Will Scarlet .
