Information About

Aina Sahalin

OVERVIEW

Aina is Ginias' sister and a daughter of the Zeonic noble family Sahalin. She is an ace pilot, but she shows concern for her soldiers' lives. Captain Norris Packard acts as a surrogate father for the young Aina. Although she's technically only a test pilot for most of the series, only Ginias outranks her at the Zeon base. Kikuko Inoue is Aina's seiyuu while Emily Brown is her English voice

STORY

Shiro Amada rescues Aina during their show down in a destroyed Magellan-class Federation battleship after her prototype Zaku II was destroyed. During their coordinated attempt to return to their respective sides, Aina and Shiro form a bond, which is shown by Aina giving Shiro her personal pocketwatch, which he keeps for the duration of the series.

After returning to her brother's base on Earth, Aina begins test piloting the massive Apsalus Mobile Armor , her brother's greatest creation. After a few run-in's with the 08th MS Team , she and Shiro eventually end up crashing in a snowy canyon after a battle in the desert. During this battle, Shiro boarded the Apsalus with his Gundam, which resulted in both going way off course and crashing. During their time spent in this canyon, both begin to feel very attracted to the other, which is shown in a scene where both go into a hot spring wearing only their underwear (in US versions anyway).

During the final Federation assault on the Zeon base at the end of the series, Aina takes off in the Apsalus with her brother in a failed attempt to cover a Zeon transport's escape. She then tries to surrender, but her brother shoots her and then starts trying to kill everyone else. She has no choice but to kill him and destroy the Apsalus with Shiro. After helping Shiro destroy Apsalus , she and Shiro escape to the mountains and start a life together. When Kiki and Michel find them in Episode 12, Aina is pregnant with Shiro's child.

TRIVIA

  • Aina's surname, along with Ginias, was mentioned by various sources as Sakhalin. According to the American Gundam website, Aina and Ginias' surname was also referred to as '''Saharin''', possibly a translation from Japanese.
