Upon the selection of Muhajirani (the former trainer of the Iran National Team ) as the trainer of the U.A.E. National Team , Adnan was selected for that team. Notably, he retired from international football in 1997 as the all-time leader in International Appearances , with 164. As of January 2006, he is still tied for fourth on the All-time List for men. In January 1999 , U.S. Women's star Kristine Lilly surpassed his total with her 165th cap, and has added 137 more (as of January 23, 2006) in an international career that still continues.
