The Act of Tilsit () was an Act that was signed in Tilsit by the leaders of Lietuvininks (Lithuanians from Lithuania Minor ) in 1918-11-30 , which demanded the unification of Lithuania Minor and Lithuania-proper into a single Lithuanian state, thus detaching the Lithuanian-inhabited areas of East Prussia from Germany . Given the fact that this demand was pushed after the end of World War I which Germany had lost, it was expected that Lithuania Minor would be detached. However, this did not happen. Northernmost part of the Lithuania Minor - Klaipėda Region (Memelland) - was detached from Germany and placed under French supervision under the League Of Nations . But Lithuania Minor south of the Neman River , including the town of Tilsit, where this act was signed, did not become part of Lithuania. Eventually, the Act of Tilsit would play an important ideological role during the Klaipėda Revolt of 1923, after which the Klaipėda Region was adjoined to Lithuania. Some of the signers of the Tilsit Act were later persecuted by the Nazis . REFERENCES
