Academic Incest

PROBLEMS

One of the problems with "academic incest" is that the faculty of the university will tend to have the same ideas, and consequently the same errors in their thinking because they have never been exposed to a different scholastic environment.

This is why graduate schools are often harder on their own undergraduate applicants than those from outside the university.

ALTERNATE MEANING

At the University Of St Andrews a system of "academic family" exists, where those in 3rd year or above (2nd year for medics) "adopt" new students ( Freshers or bejants/bejantines). Academic incest refers to a relationship, often sexual in nature, between members of an academic family.

Academic incest is extremely common as academic parents will often choose their children based on attractiveness. They will then proceed to seduce them at Raisin Weekend , a major event for academic families in the St Andrews calendar.
