is an Artist born in Arosa, Latvia , in 1941 .
His artistic studies brought him to the Ecole Supérieur Nationale des Beaux-Arts. He is a pupil of the professor and master Robert Cami ) and to the Hautes Études de la Sorbonne , history of art, professor Pierre Francastel ) from the Ecole Pratique in Paris .
From 1962 up to 1965 he returned to the Ecole des Beaux-Arts to Lausanne . He worked with the engraver and painter Ernest Pizzotti . For the first time, he spoke about his art to the Expo Lausanne (Swiss Fair) in 1964 with his sculptures Kinetics of glass and acrylic resin. Youri Messen-Jaschin wants to be formed in several directions.
He worked two years in "the Center of contemporary engraving" in Geneva . Then, in Zurich , where it widens the pictorial perspective with the Swiss painter Friederich Kuhn the experience of the circle in the face.
From 1968 to 1970 , he studied at the University of Högskolan for design & Konsthantwerk of Gothenburg , where he made kinetic objects of textiles. In 1967 he met Jesús-Rafaël Soto , Carlos Cruz-Diez and Julio Le Parc during an exhibition at the Konstmuseum of Gothenburg. By speaking with these artists, he became fascinated by Optical Art . He decided to devote all his research towards Kinetic Art . In 1968 Youri received first prize for the art of Swiss contemporary engraving. The same year, he benefited from a purse from the Swedish state. In 1970 , he carried out a kinetic Sculpture for the American company Gould at Heistetten Germany . He also had the privilege to sell his single tapestry carried out in the style of Pop art "More Light". This work was conceived when he lived in New York and met the Pop Art artists there - Andy Warhol , Tom Wesselmann and Jasper Johns . He was enthusiastic about the use of color in this style of art. Musée Migros of contemporary art in Zurich was interested by this work. This tapestry was carried out in the Seventies in his work-studio at Zollikofen in Switzerland. In a captivating way in his creation "More Light", the bulb appears in Pop Art as a subversive force which escapes from the myths and emblem of the world of consummation. This tapestry is in the collection of Migros Vaud Switzerland.
After a stay of many month in New York , he returned to Switzerland and settled in Bern and lived there eleven years. During his stay he frequently exhibited at the Kunsthalle and in other Museums of the areas. The museums were interested in his work, the Kunsthaus of Zurich, Ecole Polytechnique federal of Zurich, the Cabinet of the prints of Geneva and abroad the Museum Royal des Beaux Art in Brussels, Stedelijk Museet, other museums and collectors deprived in the United States , Canada , Japan and in Europe buy his kinetic works to supplement their collections. These creations also were very well accommodated in Venezuela where he remained a few years. The Foundation Mendoza and Yonekura Industrial gave him the financial support which he needed to evolve his research. Youri launched out in his setting in theatre scene two significant works at the Sala of Conciertos del Ateneo and Teatro Ana Julia Rojas del Ateneo in Caracas which gained a significant success. He was invited on several occasions to set up theater and choreography on stage of his own writings. His various stays abroad enabled him to tie a bond with artists who worked in the same artistic movement. He was invited to the VI Festival Internacional de Teatro, Fundacion Eugenio Mendoza , Asociation Cultural Humboldt ( Goethe Institut ) and the Alliance Française with his theater Performance Art .
Architecture plays a significant role in his painting and his sculptures, the research of the movement Op Art ( Kinetic Art ) in architectural space makes a whole, he could discuss this research with Oscar Niemeyer , Burle Marx in Rio De Janeiro , Otake in Sao Paolo in Brazil and Clorindo Testa in Buenos-Aires . He returned to Switzerland after the devaluation of the currency and because of the political instability of this country.
In 1985 , he received the first world prize of the culture "Premio Mondiale della Cultura statua della Vittoria" Central studi E ricerche delle Nazioni Calvatone Italy. He became an "academician of Europe " of the università E Centro Studi E Ricerche of Europa Italy .
These sculptures are enriched by the movement, placed in the environment (the movement of space), supplemented by sounds of concrete music (the movement starts with the sounds). His first research with the sounds dates from the end of the Sixties. The sculptures are enriched by the movement, placed in the environment (the movement of space), and completed by music sounds concrete (movement starts sounds). His first searches with sounds and movement date the end of the 60s. Already in the 70s, Youri integrates into his optical art the neon, which he continues even to use today in his sculptures, his installation and the oil paintings.
The powerful surfaces with the monumental connected in the insertion of the third dimension mark Youri's works.
He takes part in many international exhibitions and he received research prizes in Optical Art in Italy . His work is shown in many specific and collective exhibitions, his works are in private collections and national and international museums. These works impose the deprogramming of Mental (interpretation to any hair) on the profit of the pure feeling which is the "starter" of any daydream. Its compositions "Trip..., Living room in...., One Line... " lines of colors traced on materials playing the transparency, reproduce particularly subtle Kinetic structures which connect abstracts it and the illusion on the one hand and a Psychophysiologic demonstration of the movement on the other hand. Basic element, the square is used as background and grows rich by another Geometrical form inserted in its sides. These geometrical forms reproduced uniformly on all the surface of work, develop gradually without losing their identity, even when the artist applies an irritating screen of lines parallels. These works impose the deprogramming of mental on the profit of the pure feeling which is the "starter" of any daydream.
He often uses the technique of joining for its oils and gouaches. His favourite colors are: strong reds, yellows, greens, nuances of blue, colours luminous. Just like the Algorithmic construction of the elements, the play of the colors plastic structure it and try the first integration of cybernetics to art. His method, empirical, creates new perceptions of the colors and visual effects particularly striking. The geometrical forms such as the square, the triangle or the circle develop gradually without losing their original identity. The use which makes Youri Messen-Jaschin of the movement and the color as mean of communication arranges him among the kinetic architects of space.
2004 - 2005 he stayed for several months in Sydney.
Got acquainted the cliffs of the Pacific to put them in movement in its optical work.
His work, exposed in the whole world in many individual or collective exhibitions, is now disseminated between private collections and national and international museums. Youri Messen-Jaschin is without context eminent representing of the European culture.
