The Yokohama Landmark Tower (横浜ランドマークタワー) is the tallest building in Japan . It is located in the Minato Mirai 21 district of Yokohama city. Its height is about 296 Meters (972 Feet ). The building contains a Hotel which occupies floors 49-70. The lower 48 floors are used as offices and retail. Work on the building was finished in the year 1996 . The building contains two tuned mass dampers on the (hidden) 71st floor on opposite corners of the buildings, designed to reduce sway. The tower also contains the world's second fastest Elevator , which travels at 1 floor per second, reaching the 60th floor at the top in around 1 minute.
