The Yale School of Management (also known as '''Yale SOM''') is the graduate Business School of Yale University and is located on Hillhouse Avenue in New Haven, Connecticut , USA . Yale SOM offers M.B.A. and Ph.D. degree programs.


ABOUT THE SCHOOL

Founded by William H. Donaldson , Yale SOM conducts education and research in areas such as finance, Strategic Management , leadership, economics, marketing, entrepreneurship, and Organizational Behavior . The school offers a wide range of academic programs and concentrations at the Graduate level and its most acclaimed programs are finance and strategic management. Yale is distinguished from its peers by its finance faculty, ethics emphasis, and International Center for Finance.

The Yale SOM campus combines 19th century mansions with contemporary buildings. Donaldson Commons, Yale's dining facility, is across the street and was named after the Founding Dean Of The School .

There are 468 students enrolled in Yale's Master Of Business Administration program. Students who attend Yale SOM are known as " Yalies ," as are all Yale University students and alumni. There are 81 faculty members and the dean of Yale SOM is Joel M. Podolny .

The School was founded in 1976 by William H. Donaldson , former Chairman of the Securities And Exchange Commission and Founder of Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette , as the Yale School of Organization and Management, and awarded its first graduate business degrees in 1978. The School was renamed Yale School of Management in 1994.

STUDENT LIFE

Yale MBA students operate over 50 student clubs. These clubs include career-oriented clubs such as the Private Equity, Biotechnology, Investment Management, and Consulting clubs and athletic clubs such as the Soccer, Crew, Skiing, and Squash clubs. Yale MBA students traditionally attend the annual Harvard-Yale football game, the location of which alternates each year between New Haven and Cambridge . As part of that sports event weekend, Yale MBA and Harvard MBA students compete against each other in the annual Harvard-Yale Leadership & Ethics Debate which takes place on the business school campus of the host university of " The Game ".

The School is home to the following research centers:

Yale SOM's Endowment fund, valued at $370.6 million in 2005, is one of the largest business school endowments in the U.S. The endowment is primarily used according to the donors' wishes, which include the support of teaching and research. Yale SOM's endowment is part of the larger Yale University endowment. David Swensen , who manages the Yale University endowment fund, has generated exceptional endowment returns for the university during the past two decades.

Yale SOM offers a number of joint-degree programs including: MBA/JD with Yale Law School , MBA/MD with Yale School Of Medicine , MBA/PhD with Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, MBA/MArch with Yale School of Architecture, MBA/MFA with Yale School Of Drama , MBA/MDiv or MBA/MAR with Yale Divinity School , and MBA/MA in International Relations with Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

Yale SOM also offers the Silver Scholars Program for exceptional Yale College graduating seniors.
