Information About

X-men, Vol. 2

.]]

''X-Men, vol. 2'' published as ''''' New X-Men ''''' from 2001 until 2004 , is a Marvel Comics Series featuring an Eponymous Group of Mutant Superhero es, published from 1991 to present day. It is often simply called '''''X-Men''''' because the first series with that name has been called '' Uncanny X-Men '' since 1981

Although not the first Spin-off of ''Uncanny X-Men,'' ''X-Men'' is the second monthly series to portray the adventures of the mutant team.

HISTORY

In 1991 , the launch of ''X-Men,'' made a huge splash in the comic book industry. During this time A Huge Speculator’s Market developed with the enormous demand for first issues and collectors’ items fans thought (falsely) would gain value. Assisted by four, collectable variant covers and the superstar status of artist Jim Lee , ''X-Men'' #1 became the best-selling comic book of all-time, a record it still holds. Afterwards, comic book companies frequently used variant covers to boost sales. However, when the speculator market crashed and comics like ''X-Men'' #1 did not become valuable (after all, they were very common), the covers became a symbol for that dark period in the industry.
. ]]

Since this incident, ''X-Men'' has remained a very popular series, as have other “X-books” but it never experienced a peak in sales and publicity as it did upon its launch.
In issue #114 ( 2001 ), the series changed its title to '' New X-Men '' and took a bold new direction. Writer Grant Morrison redirected the X-Men’s mission to that of Teacher s and introduced off-beat humor and several high-minded Science Fiction concepts into the series. Meanwhile, artist Frank Quitely redesigned the team, giving them sleek Leather / Polyester outfits instead of the traditional superhero uniforms (see New X-Men for more information). These changes had wide effects on the entire X-Men family of series and many still resonate today.

With issue #157 (July, 2004 ), the series retained the name ''X-Men,'' ceding ''New X-Men'' to a series about the X-Men’s students.

RELATIONSHIP WITH ''UNCANNY X-MEN''

Since the introduction of ''X-Men,'' the plotlines of this series and ''Uncanny X-Men'' have had varying degrees of interminglement. From 1991 until 1995 , briefly in 1997 and from 2000 until present, ''Uncanny X-Men'' and ''X-Men'' featured different battalions of X-Men. Appearances of an ''Uncanny X-Men'' character in ''X-Men'' or vise versa was common but major stories concerning ''Uncanny X-Men'' characters almost always featured in ''Uncanny X-Men.''

From 1995 until 1996 , when Scott Lobdell was writing both series and from 1998 until 2000 , when Alan Davis was writing both, ''Uncanny X-Men'' and ''X-Men'' were more-or-less treated as a single bi-monthly series by the writers with plotlines from ''Uncanny X-Men'' leading directly into the next issue of ''X-Men.''

With issue #157 (July, 2004 ), as the series returned to the title ''X-Men'' and its cast moved to the newly launched '' Astonishing X-Men ,'' most of the cast of ''Uncanny X-Men'' moved to ''X-Men'' along with the former series’ illustrator and writer.
