The older name for the village is Ellendune . Until the 19th century it was nothing but a mere country village. Wroughton is most prominent for its connection to The Ridgeway (in which its secondary school is named after), a popular National Trail which is often in itself related to the ancient ''White Horse''. Wroughton was home to RAF Wroughton which closed in the late 1970s . Wroughton is famous for it annual carnival which attracts many beer louts and young hooligans, and of course the odd float. For a traditional country experience the Three Tuns provides all the entertainment you will ever need. Must see sights: Wroughton Fish and Chip Shop. Very yummy! The Weir field - fun and games.
