Worpswede is a municipality in the District Of Osterholz in Lower Saxony , Germany , northeast of Bremen in the Teufelsmoor (devil's bog). The small town is located near the Weyerberg (54 m) measuring 76.13 km&2. It was founded in 1218 . Worpswede is famous nationwide for its long tradition as an artists' colony. In 1889 the original Art Colony of Worpswede was founded. Nowadays, about 130 artists and craftsmen and -women live there permanently. Worpswede is also known as a town for relaxation and tourism.
