Information About

Wootton Wawen

Aqueduct at Wootton Wawen ]]
Its name is pronounced ''Woot'n worn''. In 2001 the parish had a population of 1,246.

It is located on the A3400 between Warwick to the east and Redditch to the west.

St Peter 's church is said to be of Saxon origin and to be the oldest Church in Warwickshire although the church, as it stands, appears to be mostly Elizabethan but with some surviving structures from Saxon times. The Church also has a small chained library and a late period monumental Brass .

The prosperity of the village was centred around the, now disused, paper mill on the River Alne . Between the Mill and the Church is Wootton Hall , built in 1637 , and home to the Carington family.

Other notable buildings include the Black Bull Inn which has a stone assigning the data of the building as 1317 .

The Stratford-upon-Avon Canal passes through Wootten Wawen and is carried on a cast iron Aqueduct across the main road. There are moorings and a canal boat marina in Wootton Wawen Basin.

The village has a railway station on the Stratford-upon-Avon to Birmingham ( Snow Hill ) railway line.
