In particular, it is important to note that long distance trains on the West of England Main Line are often only advertised as going to Salisbury Station . However, when the train arrives at Salisbury it is simply relabelled and continues on to Dorset, Exeter and the south west. Fast trains from Woking take approximately 26 minutes to reach Waterloo (some stop at Clapham Junction). Trains from the Alton Line take roughly 35 minutes, and the stopping service 50 minutes, to Waterloo. A twice-hourly RailAir bus service runs between the terminus located beside the station and Heathrow Airport , a journey of about 50 minutes. Woking Station has six platforms; platform 1 is on the north side of the station, platform 6 the south. Platforms 1 and 2 are typically used for trains travelling towards London. Platform 3 is at the easternmost end of the central platform 'island' and is used as the terminus for the Waterloo/Woking Via Weybridge stopping service. Platforms 4 and 5 are typically used by trains travelling away from London (Portsmouth Direct Line trains often calling at platform 5). Platform 6 is rarely used for customer services; often diesel locomotives are parked there. Woking Station was destroyed in H. G. Wells' novel The War Of The Worlds . EXTERNAL LINKS |
