Information About

Wishes

''Wishes'' is a fireworks spectacular at the Magic Kingdom theme park in Florida and at Disneyland Park in Paris . The show debuted at the Magic Kingdom on October 9 , 2003 , and was developed by Walt Disney Creative Entertainment , who were assigned to create a replacement for the 32-year-old '' Fantasy In The Sky '' fireworks. In October , the show is replaced with '''''HalloWishes''''', and in late November and December , '''''Holiday Wishes'''''. The French version premiered on July 16 2005, with the only similarity to the American version being the music and storyline.

WISHES AT THE MAGIC KINGOM

''Wishes''

The regular show is hosted by Jiminy Cricket and the Blue Fairy, and revolves around the wishes of famed Disney characters - good and bad. Cinderella Castle is illuminated for the most part of the show in a bright, glowing blue, imitating the Blue Fairy , but is lit in angry reds and oranges for the ''Villainous Wishes'' sector of the show.

The show begins with the theme song of the show synchronised to very simple shells, which after Jiminy Cricket begins his narration. Disney characters say their wishes, and then Disney villains say theirs. The show ends in a massive display of pyrotechnics and shells.

While the show debuted at the Magic Kingdom, a version adapted for a smaller budget and more Continental audience ran at Disneyland Resort Paris during the summer of 2005, and segments of the theme music and fireworks from the show form part '' Remember... Dreams Come True '' at Disneyland .

''HalloWishes''

''Happy HalloWishes: A Grim Grinning Ghost Spooktacular in the Sky'' debuted in 2005 and is performed at the special Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party nights at the Magic Kingdom in place of the regular ''Wishes'' show. Taking its name from the theme song for the classic attraction The Haunted Mansion , the show features fireworks synchronised to classic Halloween songs and Disney Villain themes.

''Holiday Wishes''

''Holiday Wishes: Celebrate the Spirit of the Season'' replaces ''Wishes'' at the special Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party nights. Featuring dazzling fireworks performed to remixed classic Christmas songs, the show is most probably the favourite out of the three ''Wishes'' shows, leading to the show's soundtrack being available on CD , as is the regular show. During the show's finale, the music and fireworks stop temporarily and machines on the roof of Main Street, U.S.A. create artificial Snow , creating an emotional climax similar to the '' Believe... In Holiday Magic '' holiday show at Disneyland .

WISHES AT DISNEYLAND PARK, PARIS

As part of the Happiest Celebration On Earth for Disneyland California's 50th Anniversary, Disneyland Park (Paris) introduced a brand new ''nighttime spectacular'' based on Magic Kingdom's popular ''Wishes'' firework show. The show ran from July 16, 2005 to August 28, 2005, with performances every night at 11:15 PM. A return is expected in 2006, with current official dates giving a performance run from July 14 through August 27, 2006.

Despite featuring far fewer fireworks and a comparably miniscule budget, the Parisian version of ''Wishes'' managed to delight guests with a series of special effects not seen before in the park. In addition to colourful projections of Disney characters to help relay the story of the show to the multilingual audience, green and blue laser arrangements (projected onto and from the Castle) gave the show an "edge" above previous firework shows in the park. The only "scene" cut from the show is the Hercules/Princesses segment, with the reasoning likely to separate the storyline from that of Disney's Fantillusion parade, which precedes the show. The commentary of the show has also been altered, with some sections of Jiminy Cricket's English narration cut and replaced by the Blue Fairy, who now co-narrates the show in French. Some fan communities trashed the show for its lack of large shell-based fireworks, others were pleased with what the park had achieved with such a small budget. Guest reactions in the park were hugely positive, however, which strongly suggests the 2006 return will take place.
