OVERVIEW

Season one Overview

In the first episode of the first season, Bloom, a red-haired teenager from the Earth city Gardenia who is obsessed with fantasy stories and fairies, stumbles upon the fairy Stella, who is locked in combat with an Ogre named Knut and several small Ghouls .

Knut and the ghouls are about to defeat and capture Stella when, frightened by the monsters, Bloom unwittingly lets off a magical blast; this directs Knut's attention at her, and gives Stella an opportunity to counter-attack with her own specialty, an attack from her Scepter . Knut and his monsters escape, and an exhausted Stella Faint s. Bloom, concerned about Stella's condition, brings her home to recover.

When Bloom wakes up the next day, she thinks this was all a Dream and reflects on what happened the previous day. Later, Knut and his ghouls return with a more powerful Hunter Troll determined to capture Stella. As Knut and the Hunter Troll are about to defeat both Stella and Bloom, the specialists from Red Fountain arrive and repel Knut's attacks and capture his troll.

Stella, impressed by Bloom's power, invites Bloom to attend Alfea, a school for fairies in training. At first, Bloom's parents are skeptical, but Bloom's interest in her innate magical power convinces her parents that her attendance would be in her best interest, and they allow to her go hone her skills as a fairy.

Over the course of the series: Tecna, Flora and Musa are introduced and form the Winx Club, with Bloom as the informal leader of the group; the conflict between the girls and a rival Clique from another school called The Trix consisting of Icy, Stormy, and Darcy; The Trix form to search for the powerful '''Dragon's Fire''', an omnipotent force that can control the whole of the Magic Dimension, and are convinced that one of the Winx Club members has it.

Although not Japanese, Winx Club shares many traits with Magical Girl anime genre cartoons. There are transformation sequences, magical characters, announced attacks, and of course, a romantic subplot. The average age group the show is targeted at is 7-18.

Season two Overview

In this second series, most the characters from the first season return to continue the series as well as introduce new characters. In the first episodes, the Winx Club members return to Alfea after their summer vacation to begin their second year. As Bloom meets again with the other members of the Winx Club, she suddenly becomes separated and wanders deep into the halls of Alfea pursuing a flying seahorse-like creature. The creature leads her into the classroom of the resident teacher pixie that tells her that their meeting is nothing short than fate and proceeds to tell her future.

In the vaguest of terms, she tells Bloom that she will meet a new friend, a new enemy, and have an adventure unlike any other. About this time, the scene changes to show Layla climbing a giant Stalagmite . When she reaches the top, she finds her friends, a group of pixies, confined behind a magical barrier. As she helps these pixies escape, she set off alarms and attracts the attention of Lord Darkar. Lord Darkar persues and recaptures all but one of the escaped pixies and throws Layla (and her pixie) off a cliff. As Bloom and the other members of the Winx Club leave Alfea, a visually shaken Layla wanders onto Bloom's path and collapses.

Over the course of the series, Layla explains her reason for being in Shadowhaunt and requests help to rescue the pixies, in which the Winx Club and specialists oblige. About this time, Lord Darkar seeks additonal members for his plans and finds that help in the Trix girls. Lord Darkar aids in their escape and gives them jewelry ("Gloomix") that will increase their powers. But then something more terrible than in all this reign of evil happens. Bloom turns to the dark side when the Professer Avalon hypnotizes her and brings her to Lord Darkar to activate the four Codexes. She was then known as Dark Bloom. Her evil outfit was all black but still glittery and her crown was sharp and pointed and she had gothic-like wings and cat eyes.

=Students at Alfea

Bloom: A red-haired teenager of "magic and dreams" (magia e sogni). Originally hailing from the small town of Gardenia on Earth, Bloom was unaware of her great magical potential until it activated when an unfriendly ogre attacked her. Princess Stella took note of Bloom's "Winx" and got her enrolled at the Alfea School for Fairies. In the 4Kids version, which is not the original English and/or Italian version, the word "'''Winx'''" is a common word to express the magic in a fairy, but in the original English version, Bloom made that word up after suggesting that if they were to stay together as a group, they should give themselves a name, and thus the Winx Club was formed. At first Bloom had little control over her powers, but has since mastered them to a fair degree. She later discovers that she is really a princess (the only heir to the Planet Sparks). At the same time she also discovers that she is the keeper of the powerful Dragon's Fire. Bloom is a nice girl, despite being new to magic and Magix. She's become the official leader of the Winx Club. Bloom's power is fire based. She is in love with Prince Sky. Bloom's heritage comes from a long line of royalty. In flashbacks, where her parents and older sister are shown; it is revealed that she is a Princess of Sparks and thus like other men and women of this world she is endowed with a great magical potential. Liza Jacqueline voices Bloom in the 4Kids version.

Stella: A Blonde teenager of "style and beauty" (moda e bellezza). She is the princess of planet Solaria. Stella is the oldest of the Winx Club because she was held back a grade for an accident she caused. She is very vain, spoiled and loves to be the center of attention, but is also very sensitive and even selfless towards the people she cares about. Her parents are in the middle of a divorce and it hurts her to see them break up. Her power comes from the Sun and the Moon. Stella is in love with Brandon and once she called him snookums. Caren Manuel voices Stella in the 4Kids version.
  • Stella means "star" in Italian.

Musa: An Chinese teenager of "music and free time" (musica e tempo libero). She especially loves music. Despite being the most tomboyish of the Winx along with Tecna, she is the most emotionally vulnerable; Musa compensates by putting up a tough front. Her emotional weakness is probably a result from her mother's early death and father being far away. Her powers are derived from music. She is also a bit of a loner and has a crush on Riven, but they both won't admit they like each other until the end of season 1. Lisa Ortiz voices Musa in the 4Kids version.
  • Musa means Muse in Italian.

Flora: A Hispanic teenager of "love and nature" (amore e natura). She is a calm, mature girl whose power is based on plant life. She is very level-headed but also rather shy about her own feelings. Flora can always be counted on to make the right decision. Her skin is darker than everyone except for Layla; she also is the girliest of the Winx Club. She said that she can't live without smelling the perfume from her plants. Flora has a crush on Helia, but she says that guys have to make the first move in her realm, and doesn't realize that she's wrong until the second-to-last episode, where she apologizes to Helia for not being brave enough to tell him that she liked him. Kerry Williams voices Flora in the 4Kids version.
  • Flora may be named after a word means "plant life" in Italian as well as English, or the Roman goddess of nature and youth.

Tecna: A British teenager of "science and technology" (scienza e tecnologia). She is highly intelligent and loves all technology. However, she doesn't understand non-technical things particularly well (e.g. when handed a bucket and a broom she wore the bucket as a helmet and used the broom like a feather-duster). Tecna has trouble expressing her emotions and bases the majority of her decisions on pure logic. Deep inside, she truly cares for her friends. In the English version, she has a British accent. Tecna likes Timmy and sometimes they do some things like what couples do, however, Timmy quotes that, in the friendship category, they haven't really "slapped the label" on their relationship. Dani Schaffel voices tecna in the 4Kids version.
  • The name Tecna is derived from tecnologia, the Italian word for "technology".

Layla: An African/Middle Eastern teenager with powers over fluids. She controls a special fuchsia fluid called Morfix that can assume any shape she wants. In the English version, her power is the contol of water molecules. Layla is an affectionate, athletic and adventurous girl who is good at sports and dancing. She is the princess of planet Andros and wears a lime-green fairy outfit. Her pixie, Piff, is the pixie of Sweet Sleep. Layla is also one of the few people who know of Pixie's Village. Her name was originally Aisha but was changed to Layla in the non-Italian language version, the only character renamed. Vasthy Mompoint voices Layla in the 4Kids version.

:Francis: She has the best counter-spells in the whole school and wears a harlequin fairy outfit. She is also Layla's roomate.

:Priscilla: She has a dark blue fairy outfit.

:Mirta: Mirta was originally a student at Cloud Tower, but her kind nature got her in trouble with the Trix. Icy changed her into a pumpkin and Mirta remained that way until Flora broke the spell. After regaining her true form, she becomes an exchange student at Alfea.

The Trix

:Icy: A young witch described as having a "Heart of Ice" (''cuore di ghiaccio''). As the eldest and most powerful sister, she is the ruthless leader of the Trix and wishes to rule the universe. The name Icy suits her perfectly, describing her powers and her general personality. She is cruel for the sake of being cruel, viciously ridiculing people she doesn't approve of. She attacks victims with freezing rays and snow storms. She is also head of the Senior Witches, which for all witches at cloud tower at the senior level. Icy hates the fairies of Alfea to a huge extent, with the misguided advice from Ms. Griffin. The witch's antics mainly targets breaking into Alfea and casting some sort of spell such as a curse or hex. The beasts have included Ogres, Minotaurs, Trolls and a Nightmare beast. Lisa Ortiz voices Icy in the English version.

  • Temper Freeze: It is seen in episodes that she can freeze with her emotions

  • Ice Spikes: In one eposode she can make spikes with her ice

  • Wisperian Crystal: Icy's Wisperian Crystal is shaped like a dagger. This is probably because she is a warlike person

:Darcy: A young witch described as the "Lady of Darkness" (''signora dell'oscurità''). She is more calm and competent than her sisters. Devious and manipulative, Darcy uses subtle dark magic and illusions to confuse and control opponents. She is good at discovering weakness and exploiting them. Continuing the purple accessories, Darcy wears heavy eye makeup in her witch outfit.

:Her powers are of darkness and it commonly comes out like purple rings. Her powers are widely displayed in the seventh episode of the first season "The Day Of The Rose", here it is revealed that she can hypnotize people such as Riven. In the episode "Army Of Decay" is shown that she can create vortexes and make rooms turn into darkness(this is probably due to the fact that her powers were powered by the Dragonfire at the time.)

:In "The Day Of The Rose" she hypnotizes Riven, a Red Fountain boy. Their relationship was in the arc until the witches obtain the Dragonfire. Riven was a spy for Darcy and posed to get information about Bloom for the witches. He, for most of the Decay arc, is prisoner in Cloud Tower.

:Stormy: A young witch (she's the youngest of the Trix) described as the "Queen of Storms" (''regina delle tempeste''). Her temper matches her name; Stormy is extremely proud, ill-tempered and is somewhat immature. She secretly believes herself to be stronger than Icy but this is unlikely. Like her name also suggests, Stormy creates and controls storms. Suzy Myers voices Stormy in the English version.
Stormy wears a maroon-red skirt and has frizzy purple-blue hair.

=Other students at Cloud Tower

:Mirta: A kind Witch who stands out quite prominently from the other witches of Cloud Tower, her sweet and shy nature making her a target of ridicule and scorn there, except for Lucy. Mirta doesn't think the fairies are bad and even attempts to help Bloom on one occasion, but she pays a heavy price for interfering in the Trix's business and is turned into a pumpkin for most of the story. Flora keeps the pumpkin in her room and takes care of it affectionately, trying several times to turn her back into the witch she once was. By the end of the first season, she is turned back into a witch and becomes a transfer student to Alfea. In fandom, she is stated as a Fairy - Witch Hybrid .

:Lucy: Mirta's only friend at Cloud Tower. Tall, pale, and sickly-looking, Lucy has self-esteem problems and desperately wants to befriend the Trix (though they scorn and tease her). She appears to be a very good dancer, though. She and Mirta have been friends since middle school.

In one episode Tune was angry so she yelled and sang at the same time(odd i know) and Chatta says "Even when she is angry shes polite" Very funny!
