HISTORY

Westport was officially incorporated on June 26 , 1914 .


GEOGRAPHY

Westport is located at 46°53'27" North, 124°6'36" West (46.890803, -124.109926).

According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 11.0 Km&2 (4.2 Mi&2 ). 9.3 km&2 (3.6 mi&2) of it is land and 1.6 km&2 (0.6 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 14.86% water.


DEMOGRAPHICS

As of the Census of 2000, there were 2,137 people, 983 households, and 547 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 229.2/km&2 (592.9/mi&2). There were 1,358 housing units at an average density of 145.6/km&2 (376.8/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 92.75% White , 0.33% African American , 3.09% Native American , 0.94% Asian , 0.05% Pacific Islander , 0.47% from Other Races , and 2.39% from two or more races. 2.99% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 983 households out of which 23.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.9% were Married Couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 44.3% were non-families. 34.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.16 and the average family size was 2.79.

In the city the population was spread out with 22.0% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 24.8% from 25 to 44, 27.3% from 45 to 64, and 19.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 98.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.9 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $32,037, and the median income for a family was $40,037. Males had a median income of $33,173 versus $23,889 for females. The Per Capita Income for the city was $17,362. 14.3% of the population and 9.0% of families were below the Poverty Line . 23.4% of those under the age of 18 and 4.6% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
