Thomson West is the largest part of Thomson Legal & Regulatory , which is the largest market group of The Thomson Corporation . The company publishes legal, business, and regulatory information in print, and on electronic services such as Westlaw . West has its headquarters in Eagan, Minnesota and has offices in Cleveland, Ohio and Rochester, New York . West was founded in 1872 in St. Paul, Minnesota by John B. West as West Publishing Company. The company was purchased by Thomson in 1996. Thomson West also consists of a number of law book companies purchased by either Thomson or West, including Bancroft-Whitney, Banks-Baldwin, Barclay, Callaghan & Company, Clark Boardman, Foundation Press, Gilbert's, Harrison, Lawyers Cooperative Publishing, and Warren, Gorham & Lamont, as well as publishes some Shepard's treatise titles (but not Shepard's Citations).
