Information AboutWayne Dyer |
|
Wayne Dyer was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1940 . After his family was abandoned by his alcoholic father, Dyer's early life was spent living in foster homes and orphanages, where he had to learn to be self-reliant and actively seek wisdom from other sources. This somewhat troubled upbringing influenced Dyer's choices later in life. As a young man he joined the Navy and served for four years. Upon leaving he began studying at Wayne State University in Detroit at the age of 22, where he earned a PhD in educational counseling. After earning his degree he worked as an associate professor at St. John’s University in New York. Dyer is one of the most widely known and respected people in the field of self-empowerment. He became a well-known author with his bestselling book ''Your Erroneous Zones'', and has gone on to write many other self-help classics, including ''Meditations for Manifesting'', ''Staying on the Path'', ''Your Sacred Self'', ''Everyday Wisdom'', and ''You’ll See It When You Believe It''. Dyer's most recent books are ''The Power of Intention'' and ''Inspiration: Your Ultimate Calling''. ''The Power of Intention'' proposes that one's thoughts bring about the circumstances one has in one's life. It also forms the theme of a recent PBS presentation. Wayne Dyer is affectionately called the "father of motivation" by some of his fans. Despite his childhood spent in orphanages and foster homes, Dyer has overcome many obstacles to make his dreams come true. Today he spends much of his time striving to show others how to do the same. THE BANANA INCIDENT While promoting the Power of Intention program on PBS, Wayne mentioned that his son was physically debilitated by the act of holding a gangsta rap CD in his hand (Wayne dissaproved of the violent content of the music and had asked his son to remove the CD to the player). Upon replacing the CD with a banana, Dyer fils recovered immediately. AFFILIATIONS AND CONTEMPORARIES Dyer has been described as being in the vanguard of the New Thought Movement, along with other popular Self-help teachers as Deepak Chopra .
