As of the Census 2 of 2000, there were 9,851 people, 3,437 households, and 2,206 families residing in the county. The Population Density was 9/km&2 (22/mi&2). There were 3,662 housing units at an average density of 3/km&2 (8/mi&2). The racial makeup of the county was 96.78% White , 0.94% Black or African American , 0.35% Native American , 0.35% Asian , 0.01% Pacific Islander , 0.85% from Other Races , and 0.72% from two or more races. 1.48% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
