Warren County is a County located in the U.S. State of Indiana . As of 2000 , the population is 8,419. The County Seat is Williamsport 6 .


HISTORY

The county was established March 1, 1827 by the Indiana General Assembly. It was named for Dr. Joseph Warren , killed in 1775 at the Battle Of Bunker Hill , in which he fought as a private, because his commission as a General had not yet taken effect


GEOGRAPHY

According to the U.S. Census Bureau , the county has a total area of 949 Km&2 (367 Mi&2 ). 945 km&2 (365 mi&2) of it is land and 4 km&2 (2 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 0.47% water.

As of the Census 2 of 2000, there were 8,419 people, 3,219 households, and 2,423 families residing in the county. The Population Density was 9/km&2 (23/mi&2). There were 3,477 housing units at an average density of 4/km&2 (10/mi&2). The racial makeup of the county was 99.09% White , 0.08% Black or African American , 0.14% Native American , 0.18% Asian , 0.02% Pacific Islander , 0.07% from Other Races , and 0.42% from two or more races. 0.44% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 3,219 households out of which 33.30% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.90% were Married Couples living together, 6.80% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.70% were non-families. 21.20% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.50% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 2.98.

In the county the population was spread out with 26.00% under the age of 18, 6.60% from 18 to 24, 28.00% from 25 to 44, 25.50% from 45 to 64, and 13.90% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 102.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.70 males.

The median income for a household in the county was $41,825, and the median income for a family was $48,647. Males had a median income of $35,444 versus $21,265 for females. The Per Capita Income for the county was $18,070. 6.50% of the population and 4.00% of families were below the Poverty Line . 9.20% of those under the age of 18 and 8.00% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
