Information AboutWaluigi |
|
is a Fictional Character from the '' Mario '' series who appears in the spin-off games (as opposed to the main platformer titles). He is Luigi 's "evil" counterpart and one of Wario's few friends (not counting the WarioWare Inc. characters). There is significant evidence supporting the claim that Waluigi is Wario's brother. He first appeared in '' Mario Tennis '' on the Nintendo 64 . He was created by Camelot 's Fumihide Aoki and is voiced by Charles Martinet , the same voice actor for Mario , Luigi , and Wario . Much like Wario's hat bears a flipped M (in other words, a W), Waluigi's hat bears a vertically-flipped L (which winds up like Γ) Similar to Wario, Waluigi wields pointy shoes, much like that of a leprechaun. His moustache is thin and wiry (like the man himself). Waluigi's nose is elongated and pink, rather like the stereotypical witch's nose. As with Wario, Waluigi is the physical shape of his rival taken to the extreme: Luigi is tall and a little skinny, while Waluigi is very tall and very skinny. GAMES The Waluigi character was deliberately created to be a selectable character in various Multi Player Game s. He has appeared in several games, although none of them are main games in the ''Mario'' series. His first appearance was in '' Mario Tennis '' games for the Game Boy Color and Nintendo 64 , as Wario 's doubles partner.'']]Later, along with Princess Daisy , he joined the ''Mario Party'' Series 's roster in '' Mario Party 3 '' and has been a playable character in every main entry in the series since. In '''', there are two Badges that Mario can wear to change his appearance. One of them is the L Emblem, which puts Mario in Luigi's clothes, and the other is the W Emblem, which puts him in Wario's clothes. When Mario puts on the W Emblem and the L Emblem at the same time, he changes into Waluigi's clothes. Waluigi is a rumored unlockable character in ''Super Mario 64 DS'', but this has been proven to be false. It was also rumored that he was playable in '' Super Smash Bros. Melee '', but this was once again false. He appears towards the end of ''Mario Party 3'''s story mode as an antagonist character, and challenges the player to a battle royal game on his own board "Waluigi's Island", although he is only the penultimate enemy in the game. Waluigi also was a main character in a game plot in '''', in which he is one of the characters, along with Bowser , attempting to wreak havoc with the Mushroom Kingdom 's music. He is again a playable character in the Mario Kart Series, appearing at the start in '''' and as a secret character in '' Mario Kart DS ''. Waluigi even has his own track entitled: Waluigi PinBall, perhaps foreshadowing more Waluigi fame/cameos. It is rumored that Waluigi will be a character (Secret or otherwise) in the upcoming game '' Super Smash Bros. Wii '' . This is a reasonable assumption, seeing as how Wario was voted as one of the most wanted characters for SSBR, and including Wario obviously constitutes including Waluigi. And, seeing as how the votes for most wanted characters for ''Super Smash Bros. Melee'' were Peach and Bowser (although they were originally supposed to be in the first '' Super Smash Bros. '', but were omitted due to space constrants), and they were included, Wario will most likely be included in SSBR. ( Toad was the other top-voted character, with Birdo trailing close behind). APPEARANCE Waluigi has a hat and gloves with a Γ symbol. Mario's evil counterpart, Wario, wears a "W", which is also an upside-down "M". Likewise, Waluigi is noted as Luigi's evil counterpart, and this is most likely the reason that he wears a "Γ". Nintendo used the vertical mirror image of the "L". The Γ is not Faux Cyrillic and even if it looks like the greek letter "gamma" and could be used to rename him "Gualuigi", it's not said letter. Waluigi wears black overalls with a purple outfit, has leprechan-esque boots, and is very tall. Luigi is taller than Mario, and yet Luigi is Mario's younger brother, and it is unkown whether or not the same applies to Wario and Waluigi, considering the ambiguity of their relationship. In '''', Waluigi's song is called "Destruction Dance". The song is a remix of the bonus game tune from the 1984 NES game '' Wrecking Crew '', though the game itself did not feature Waluigi. Waluigi's special ball in '' Mario Superstar Baseball '', the Liar Ball, splits up into a fake ball and a real ball. The fake one is an eggplant, again possibly referring to Wrecking Crew, because that had Eggplant Men as enemies. Another thing in the game is the team logo for Waluigi Flankers - On it, Waluigi is wearing shades, and has a laugh just like Foreman Spike 's laugh in '' Wrecking Crew '98 ''. The latest addition of ''Mario Kart DS'' gives Waluigi with a kart called the 'Gold Mantis' which looks like a modified crane of some sort. It's another reference of Waluigi's possible connection to '' Wrecking Crew ''. In the Super Famicom game, Wrecking Crew 98, Foreman Spike greatly resembles both Wario and Waluigi, has a pink nose and virtually an identical mustache, thereby indicating that Foreman Spike could be either Wario or Waluigi. PERSONA Waluigi is apparently a rival to Luigi in video game sidekick fame. He is quite jealous of Luigi's popularity, and is quite proud of his abilities in athletics. Waluigi is shown to have a huge ego in most of the Mario based sports/party games, including ''Mario Party 3'', in which his quotes include "I'm the best!", and "Waluigi's the weener!". In '' Super Mario Strikers '', Waluigi looks down on his opponents, and uses both his arms to point at the back of his jersey saying "Come on, Wa-lui-gi!". He is believed to be an anti-hero to Luigi. Nintendo has dropped some subtle hints about Waluigi's personality. In '' Mario Party 4 '', Waluigi was described as a sneaky and sly character. His favorite item was the Sparky Sticker, which is a sticker with a picture of Zap on it. Coming in contact with the sticker zaps its unlucky victim. Waluigi has also been described as being weird and abnormal. In ''Super Mario Strikers'', Waluigi performes a cocky maneuver after scoring a goal that is similar to D-Generation X 's "suck it" crotch chop pose. Many people have found this very offensive and inappropriate, while some believe that it is only an error in the animation, or more likely an unfortunate co-incidence. WALUIGI'S NAME Waluigi's name has a dual-meaning in Japanese. The Japanese word means "bad" or "evil" ("Warui" is also a condescending way of apologizing, that could be compared to saying "My bad", as opposed to "''gomennasai''", or "''sumimasen''" which are more polite). This means that Waluigi's name is a Portmanteau of "''warui''" and "Luigi" and essentially means "Evil Luigi". Many believe his name to be a cheap offshoot of Wario's name rather than being derived from Luigi's name because they are uninformed. Additionally, the name Waluigi would be pronounced in Japanese as ''waruiji'', which rearranges the syllables of ''ijiwaru'', the Japanese word for "mean-spirited". Note that in Japanese, the same sound is used for L and R. CRITICISM Waluigi is disliked by some Nintendo fans due to the lack of originality behind his creation and his clunky name. He is also disliked (by some), because of his role in the Mario universe as a "filler" character – that is, a character who serves as a partner to a previously established character or as an extra player in games like the '' Mario Party '' or '' Mario Kart '' series. Walugi never appeared in his 8 years of existence in an adventure-based Mario/Wario game. Some fans of Waluigi hope for him to have his own game, and a Waluigi fan game was created, entitled: "Waluigi World". RELATIONSHIP WITH WARIO Waluigi's relationship to Wario is unclear. It appears that they might be related since they share some facial and mental characteristics, but Waluigi's '' Super Smash Bros. Melee '' trophy says that it is indeed unclear if they are brothers or not. It can be inferred that they are at least good friends. Since Mario and Luigi are of brethren relationship, it would be logical to assume the same with Wario and Waluigi as well. However, according to Nintendo of Europe, Waluigi and Wario are brothers:
'''s opening movie]] Nintendo of America also mentioned Waluigi and Wario's brotherhood:
Also, Wario and Waluigi's team name in Mario Party 5 and 6 - the "Wicked Bros." - also implies that they are brothers. On the other hand, pairing Yoshi and Luigi together yields the team name "Green Bros." Yoshi and Luigi are clearly not brothers. Although Nintendo adopted the use of the name "Mario" as a double for the characters' last name from the movies to make sense for why Luigi is a "Mario Brother." It is unclear if the same can be said for Wario & Waluigi, meaning they could also bear the Mario last name or even be "Wario Bros." or maybe even something else. The term "Wicked Bros." shouldn't be taken seriously at this time as their official last name, but more so as their personalities. CAMEO APPEARANCES
