The station is run by the Educational Broadcasting Foundation, Inc. (Which is part of the Willwoods Community, a group that was formed by a group of married couples in 1978 and is supported by the Catholic Church) and operates at channel 32. WLAE signed on the air in July 1984 . In addition to offering PBS programming, WLAE also airs a lot of local educational fare, as well as shows from LPB , even though they are not a satellite station. WLAE is also one of very few PBS stations to show a daily Catholic Mass, live from St. Louis Cathedral. HURRICANE KATRINA Following Hurricane Katrina, WLAE sustained damage to their transmitter. As of December 22, 2005, they remain off the air to terrestrial viewers, but can be seen on Cox Cable systems and on DirecTV. They are slowly returning to a normal schedule, and has added a special daily Katrina-related program, ''A Greater New Orleans -- The Road To Recovery'', weekdays at 12:30PM and 7PM. EXTERNAL LINKS
