Information About

Western Music

Western music is the genres of Music originating in the Western World (Europe and its former colonies) including Western Classical Music , American Jazz , Country And Western , Pop Music and Rock And Roll . The word ''Western'' may be misleading as the definition of the western world has changed over time and because of the inclusion of Western influenced genres.

HISTORY

Western music developed out of the creatively fertile framework of Western Philosophy that had its birthplace in Ancient Greece and the Roman Catholic Church . Pythagoras experimented with Interval s of sound based on small Integer s, which we recognize today as the 12-note chromatic scale. Under Pope Gregory I the church restricted much of the allowable musical forms and scales. From these logical roots developed the Chant s of early Christian tradition, first Monophonic , and later Polyphonic and including Instrument s.
