An original floor tile (from 1953) bearing the West Anchorage High School seal (eagle logo and name) is kept well preserved in the high school. It remains protected with a chain barrier to prevent students and faculty from walking across it. West High School survived the Great Alaska Earthquake . On March 28th, 1964 at exactly 5:36PM Local Time an earthquake with a magnitude of 9.2 (second largest in the world) struck. The second floor of the high school was demolished by the quake.
