Weatherby Swann, or Governor Swann, is the fictional governor of the Caribbean town of Port Royal in Disney 's " Pirates Of The Caribbean " movies, the first of which " The Curse Of The Black Pearl " came out in 2003, while the sequels are due out in the summers of 2006 and 2007, respectively. Swann is the father of the movies'beautiful heroine Elizabeth Swann , played by Keira Knightley . Both Elizabeth and the Governor sailed from England to the Caribbean eight years before the movie storyline began, along with James Norrington , presumably so that Swann could take up the Governor's post. Swann is a doting father, though he wishes his daughter to marry Norrington, whom she does not love, and only unenthusiastically approves of her match with blacksmith Will Turner at the end of the fim. It is unknown what became of Elizabeth's mother, she is not at all mentioned in the film. Governor Weatherby Swann is portrayed by actor Jonathan Pryce . |
