EARLY LIFE Born Warren Hunts in 1923, his father died when he was very young. His mother remmaried to a man named Charles Hauck, Warren adopted both names. To this day he rarely mentions the fact that he was not Charles' Biological son. 1940S One of the most interesting times for Hauck, during the forties he was a Student , and a Soldier (Military Inteligenge). Even though he is considered a member of the Military, he did not leave the United States until after the war was over when he went to Japan . He was fascinated with the culture and isolation of the country, which he described as "being 100 years in the past," after surveying the damage of Hiroshima claimed that he was glad that he never joined the Manhatten Project. On Christmas Day 1943 he wed Arlene Essex, who was twenty years old at the time. They were married on such day because according to Essex "It was the only day he could get off!" Because of the G.I. Bill , Hauck was able to go to college, which he was extremely successful in. In 1973 he earned a Ph.D. Hauck and Essex had two children during the forties, Barbara and David, they would have three more during the fifties. MANHATTAN PROJECT In 1942 , Hauck ws asked to join a Top Secret Government Project. Hauck objected saying that the commute would be way to long. What he did not know was that the project was actually the Manhattan Engineering District, and that they were recruiting him to work on the Trinity Test . However after learning of the catastrophic nature of the nuclear bombs, Hauck commented on how glad he was not to have accepted. TRAVEL Hauck traveled often, one of the most notable places being Japan . Interestingly, all of his children have lived or traveled abroad, in such places as England , Japan , and Denmark . Sadly, in 2003 , Hauck was diagnosed with Kidney Disease, and Kidney Dialysis scarred all chances of traveling. However he has taken trips to see his children and ten grandchildren. TODAY As of modern times, Hauck and his wife have been enjoying a comfortable life in Rocky River High School, the place they have lived since their children were young. In 2003, both Hauck and Arlene celebrated their 80th birthdays. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ |
