Located approximately halfway between the cities of Greater Sudbury and North Bay , Warren and other surrounding communities ( Verner , St. Charles ) owe their existence to the Canadian Pacific Railway . Most settlers were French-Canadian Catholics who came by rail from the province of Québec . At the turn of the 20th century, lumber and agriculture were the main economic activities of the town.
