The city is home to a wide variety of businesses, including General Motors ' Technical Center. The current mayor is Mark A. Steenbergh , who was elected to his third four-year term in November 2003 . Eminem attended Warren Lincoln High School from 1986-1989. Warren is the home of the United States Army Tank-Automotive And Armaments Command (TACOM), the Tank Automotive Research, Development, And Engineering Center (TARDEC), the National Automotive Center (NAC), and the headquarters of Big Boy Restaurants International . HISTORY Warren was incorporated as a city in 1957 and consists of what was previously Warren Township , less the city of Center Line . GEOGRAPHY Warren is a six mile by six mile (10 km) square in the southwest corner of Macomb County in suburban Detroit . The city of Center Line is enclosed within Warren. Other cities bordering on Warren are Detroit , Hazel Park , Madison Heights , Sterling Heights , Fraser , Roseville , and Eastpointe . According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 88.9 Km&2 (34.3 Mi&2 ). 88.8 km&2 (34.3 mi&2) of it is land and 0.1 km&2 (0.04 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 0.09% water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census 2 of 2000 , there are 138,247 people and 36,719 families residing in the city. The Population Density is 1,556.6/km&2 (4,031.8/mi&2). There are 57,249 housing units at an average density of 644.6/km&2 (1,669.6/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city is 91.29% Caucasian , 2.67% African American , 0.36% Native American , 3.09% Asian , 0.02% Pacific Islander , 0.34% from Other Races , and 2.23% from two or more races. 1.35% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any Race . There are 55,551 households out of which 27.8% have Children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.7% are Married Couples living together, 11.7% have a female householder with no Husband present, and 33.9% are non-families. 28.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.47 and the average family size is 3.05. In the city, the population is spread out with 22.9% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 30.8% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 17.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 95.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.1 males. The median income for a household in the city is $44,626, and the median income for a family is $52,444. Males have a median income of $41,454 versus $28,368 for females. The Per Capita Income for the city is $21,407. 7.4% of the population and 5.2% of families are below the Poverty Line . Out of the total population, 9.5% of those under the age of 18 and 5.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line. CULTURE AND EDUCATION Warren is served by five public school districts. Postsecondary institutions include the south campus of Macomb Community College , Davenport University , and the Warren Center for Central Michigan University. The public library system comprises of four branches, and the city recreation department supports three community and recreation centers along with a system of 24 parks. The Warren Symphony Orchestra gives several concerts per season. PET CARE The City of Warren is the first city in Macomb County to have a dog park. Residents and Non-residents may obtain a dog park pass at the Warren City Clerks Office. Warren also offers low cost pet vaccinations for dogs and cats two times a year.
