The story, characterized by its author as an "historical-fantasy adventure," proceeds from the question of what might have happened had the Northmen established a permanent settlement in the part of North America that Leif Ericsson called Vinland (here identified with Newfoundland). In expanding upon this prospect, Doman involves the several noteworthy events that occurred in the Norse world at about the time of Ericsson's discovery, and strongly incorporates mythic themes. Although not marketed specifically as Christian Fiction by PublishAmerica, the work is unmistakably spiritual; Doman has said that his intention was to create a tale that "can be enjoyed by anyone except for the stubbornest Heathen s and Atheist s, but especially by Christians." |
