Tutoiement

The distinction between tutoiement and vouvoiement is known as the T-V Distinction .

Tutoiement is normally used between friends and family, or if speaking to children. In most other cases vouvoiement normally is used.

However, the ''vous'' form is used exclusively (both in formal and informal situations) in the second person plural.

Tutoiement encompasses both the pronoun, and the conjugation of the verb that follows. For instance, ''Parles-tu français?'' is an example of tutoiement, whereas ''Parlez-vous français?'' is an example of vouvoiement.
