He started his career on Osasuna in 1994 , but left in 1996 for Atlético De Madrid . In 1997 he arrived at RCD Mallorca , where he again played for only one year. In 1998 he was signed by Athletic De Bilbao , where he embarked on his longest and most successful period of time to date with a single club. He established himself as one of La Liga 's most accomplished forwards, and his exceptional form in the 2004/2005 season led to him being signed by FC Barcelona , on a free transfer.
