After eight years as owners of the club, state-run tobacco producers Qindgao Etsong Group agreed to sell Qingdao Etsong FC to privately-owned cable manufacturers Qingdao Zhongneng Group in December 2004. The club has competed in the Chinese Super League since it's creation in 2004, and finished second from bottom (11th of 12) in the first season, but climbed to 7th in the expanded division of 14 teams in the second season. They continue to play in the 2006 season. HONOURS
