Apulia (or Puglia) region of
Italy . Its capital is the city of
Bari .
It has an area of 5,138 sq km, and a total population of 1,559,662 (2001). There are 48 ''
Comuni '' in the province. However, in the year 2009 the new
Province Of Barletta-Andria-Trani will be created, taking with it seven of these communes with a total population of 341,624. (The other three communes of the new province will come from the
