HISTORY During the run up to the 2002 Election s, nationally-syndicated talk show host Hugh Hewitt noted that three of his favorite Conservative Blog s were located in traditionally Liberal Minnesota . He christened the group the Northern Alliance of Blogs, a nod to the Afghan Northern Alliance that had recently overthrown the Taliban in Afghanistan . The bloggers were:
Hewitt frequently called upon the Northern Alliance to cover news stories from their varied perspectives. In early 2003 Hewitt added SCSU Scholars (the blog of producer Mitch Berg to the Alliance. Finally, late in 2003, Hewitt added Ed Morrissey's Captain's Quarters and Spitbull , a group blog. In 2004, the group (except for Lileks and the Spitbull bloggers) started the Northern Alliance Radio Network on a Twin Cities radio station. The group also took control of its membership from Hewitt. OFFSHOOTS Also in 2004, the Northern Alliance founded the Minnesota Organization Of Bloggers , one of the largest and most active regional blog alliances in the United States. |
