ORGANIZATION NFTY-MI is organized by Temple Youth Group. While each local TYG differs in organization, focus, size, and character, the Temple Youth Group is the outlet for the highly engaged Reform Jewish teenager in a Union Synagogue. While some TYGs only meet 7 times a year for social programs, other TYGs meet over 20 times each school year and offer a full variety of social, leadership, educational, and social action programs. The NFTY-MI TYGs are as follows:
LEADERSHIP STRUCTURE While the TYG board structures varies from board to board most follow the basic structure of the Regional Board (RegiBo for short). The Regional Board is elected annually and usually consists of high school juniors and seniors. The election takes place at Boards Kallah where resoloutions and other business is also discussed and voted upon. The board positions in gavel order are as follows:
At the regional level there are also a number of Chair Positions, including the Sunshine Chair, Merchandise Chair, Israel Chair, and two to three Summer Kallah Co-Chairs. ANNUAL PROGRAMING Summer Kallah The first and longest event of the year. It usually lasts 3-5 days. Some Summer Kallah traditions include TYG color wars and a talent show. Usually held at a camp. At Leadership, TYG leaders meet with their regional board counterparts to discuss ideas and plans for the year. Fall Kallah Typically the "Social Action" Kallah. At this Kallah much of the time is focused on Tikkun Olam or "reparing the earth". This is also the event when the regional board is auctioned off as "dates" for the formal dance at Winter Kallah to raise money for tzedakah. Winter Kallah Usually held at a synagougue, as opposed to a camp, and includes a formal dance during which NFTY alumni are invited to return. Boards Kallah The second of two Kallot during which a board meeting is held. During this meeting the board for the next year is chosen and resoloutions are proposed and voted on. Freshco/LTI Kallah This Kallah has two tracks. The first for incoming 8th graders and freshman and the second for prospective leaders. Almost always held at Camp Tamarack {Link without Title} . Spring Kallah The final Kallah of the year and often the most emotional one as it is the graduating seniors' last Kallah. CURRENT AND PAST LEADERSHIP 2003-2004
